I don’t think these made it to the UK, but in the US, the Skate Crate has been around as far back as 1910 – and is back once more thanks to Kickstarter.

The project to bring the Skate Crate back was a carried out via crowdfunding at the back end of last year, easily exceeding the target set by long-time skateboarder Dave Bergthold.

What is it? Well, it’s described as the anti-scooter, something based on a skateboard, but easier to ride – and also something that looks really really cool, especially with the retro screenprinted artwork that adorns the current crop of crates. It was originally a DIY project at home (made from cast-off wood), but the new versions come pre-made (although you can buy parts to build your own at home if you wish).

They look amazing and you just know they’ll be a lot of fun. Unfortunately, they don’t come cheap. But that’s pretty much down to the quality and the work that’s gone into the finished product.

You can check out all the designs at the maker’s site, with the crates selling for $239 finished or from $199 if you want a DIY project. We’re not sure about shipping, you’ll have to ask, especially in relation to overseas.
